While we are connected through art, we also believe that we have a shared humanity. As we witness the heartbreaking humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza on our phone, computer, and television screens, there are a few things that are clear: Islamophobia is not the answer. Anti-semitism is not the answer. Violence to combat violence is not the answer. The loss of over 11,000 innocent lives* in Gaza, young and old, is not the answer.
Many artists, arts workers, and art lovers reading this will be affected by this conflict, directly or indirectly. We stand in solidarity alongside our Palestinian, Muslim, Israeli, and Jewish community members calling for an immediate ceasefire from all parties, the release of Israeli hostages, and an end to the occupation of Palestine. The merciless attacks upon the people of Gaza are causing untold suffering to generations of people there and abroad, and must stop.
We continue to listen to others and share viewpoints – including and especially those who have differing viewpoints and experiences. We invite our community to take meaningful action, explore a range of reliable media sources, and stay informed.
